"Winning the Award for Innovation in English Language Education is a testament to the courage and innovative thinking of our team inspired by the principles of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.” Nikki Cole, Program Manager ELICOS
We are excited to announce that Project Unite has been honored with the Award for Innovation in English Language Education.
In a world where global connections and solutions have become more important than ever, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted our need to work together as a global community to solve major issues.
Project Unite aims to do just that by giving university students the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and contribute to real-world solutions.
The program is a unique hybrid study tour initiative developed by UOW College Australia. Students participate in teams aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Topics may range from No Poverty and Zero Hunger to Climate Action and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, among others.
These teams, comprising students from around the globe, work on real-world issues in their chosen field of study. Participants are mentored by the University of Wollongong Dean Scholars, adding another layer of expertise to the program.
This alignment ensures that the program not only educates but also contributes to global betterment.
Students may also join specialised English classes building vocabulary and experiences designed to support participation in the Project Unite small groups.
Since its inception in February 2021, the program has engaged 464 students from around the globe, twice a year, making it a beacon of innovation and excellence in the educational landscape.
Data indicates that students who have participated in Project Unite have shown significant improvements in their English language abilities compared to traditional face-to-face programs.
The program has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and educational partners.
One student described Project Unite as "probably my favorite thing I have ever done at University," highlighting the program's profound impact on individual learning experiences.
The Award for Innovation is a recognition of Project Unite's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in education.
It celebrates the program's success in bringing together students from diverse backgrounds to work collaboratively on global challenges.
As we look forward to the future, we are excited about the continued potential of Project Unite to shape the leaders of tomorrow.
As we transition into a post-COVID world, Project Unite continues to flourish. Read detailed information about future Project Unite programs.
