A successful career in aged care taught Mahsa that she was passionate about helping others. After the hospitalisation of a family member, her goals began to change.
“Whatever I do, I do it with heart”, says Mahsa. Her career goals reflect this dedication and passion.
When Mahsa moved from Iran to Australia in 2014, she was working in her family’s small business, but eager to explore other options.
“I wanted to do something serious, more involved in community.”
A successful career in aged care taught Mahsa that she was passionate about helping others. After the hospitalisation of a family member, her goals began to change.
“I know what joy you can give people just by being a good nurse.”
Mahsa knew that her passion for aged care and support roles could make a difference in the field of nursing. When her friends recommended studying a Diploma at UOW College as a starting point, Mahsa jumped at the opportunity.
A pathway to success
“I want to grow bigger, have more authority, do more for people,” says Mahsa. For her, being a nurse means being part of your community and making a difference in the lives of others.
Mahsa aims to complete a Bachelor of Nursing and become a Registered Nurse. Through the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing, she can enter the second year of her bachelor and gain foundational knowledge that will allow her to work as an Enrolled Nurse while completing her Bachelor of Nursing.
The support and attention she received from her teachers at UOW College made a huge difference in her academic journey. Mahsa knew that no matter what the issue, her teachers would “give their all” to ensure she achieved her goals.
Work placements also gave Mahsa confidence and experience in a hospital setting.
“I was actually excited to go to placements”, says Mahsa.
“It was like we were part of the team. The nurses were really passionate about the job, and we had enough knowledge, so we knew what we were doing.”
The passion and inclusion she felt from the team in her placements was much like her experience with her peers and teachers at UOW College.
What’s next?
After achieving her Diploma of Nursing and Bachelor of Nursing, and becoming a Registered Nurse, Mahsa will continue to excel in her nursing career. Inspired by a friend, Mahsa aims to become a Clinical Manager and return to aged care with the skills, knowledge and experience she gained at UOW College.
