Mynul says he has always had a passion for information technology, because he likes to solve problems especially in the field of networking.
“Overall, I chose to study Information Technology because I love working with technology and solving tricky problems, especially in networking,” he says.
“Becoming a network engineer is my dream job, and it fits perfectly with what I want to achieve in the tech world.”
A pathway to the University of Wollongong
Mynul left his home country of Bangladesh in 2023 and arrived in Australia, ready to focus on his studies at UOW College to achieve his goal of attaining a Bachelor of Information Technology.
“I knew UOW College had a good reputation because I had also personally researched it, and I had heard through other students who had made the recommendation,” Mynul says.
Support while studying
He admits that coming to Australia presented a few challenges, but with the support of the staff at UOW College he was able to settle in more easily and begin pursuing his dream to work in network engineering.
“Coming to Australia and a new environment was hard but there was a lot of support,” he says.
Mynul says the smaller class sizes and individual support from the College staff were instrumental in helping him gain the necessary skills he now uses studying the Bachelor of Information Technology at UOW Liverpool.
“The College classes were easy to understand, and the staff were always there to help,” he says.
“Coming from another country, everything is harder, not just studying, but the College teachers made it much more enjoyable, and they had the time to help with studies and other challenges. They really take care of you.”
Studying at UOW Liverpool
He said the UOW Liverpool campus was a great place to study. Even though the campus is smaller than the Wollongong campus, still offered a lot of learning experiences.
“It has very modern facilities and lots of things happening on campus,” he says.
“The student services also helped in my learning, especially the collaborative learning environment and networking opportunities.”
When he’s not studying, Mynul says he enjoys student social events at the Liverpool campus, such as “tea and toast” where he can enjoy a cup of tea and snacks, and chat with friends.
“I also like playing chess because it’s a fun way to take a break and exercise my brain,” he says.
Living in southwestern Sydney
Living in Lakemba, in southwestern Sydney, which he describes as a vibrant, multicultural suburb known for its affordability and strong Lebanese influence.
“The area boasts a diverse array of Middle Eastern eateries and shops and is popular among families and young professionals for Bangladeshis and Indians,” he says.
“The suburb frequently hosts cultural festivals and events like Ramadan nights, adding to its rich community spirit.”
Guaranteed entry into UOW
As Mynul continues his university studies in his Bachelor of Information Technology at the UOW Liverpool campus, he feels prepared to succeed in his studies.
The Diploma of Information Technology is a pathway into the second year of the Bachelor of Information Technology. This allows Mynul to join second year students in his study cohort.
He says the skills he learned through the Diploma meant he was not overwhelmed by the magnitude of expectations as a university student.
“University studies are certainly less stressful after studying through UOW College,” he says.
“I learned a lot of what I am now studying in my second year so I can revise it again. The UOW College pathway was certainly a better way for me.”
Although Mynul is enjoying the college and university experience, meeting many other students and staff through campus and social activities, he is looking forward to completing his studies and starting to work in his chosen profession."
The University of Wollongong Liverpool campus delivers a range of bachelor's and master's programs. In addition, UOW College delivers pathways into these courses.
