Block delivery model

Introducing the Block Delivery model

Starting in Autumn 2025, UOW College will pilot the block delivery model, an innovative approach to learning designed to enhance focus and improve the overall academic experience.

The model will be trialled for a select group of students with an offer to start studying in the Autumn 2025 session and will apply to:

  • University Entrance Program (Stream 1 only)
  • Diploma of Business Standard Session (first session of the 3-session diploma only)

Be part of the change with our expert teachers

  • Two subjects at a time: For each of your 6-week sessions you will study two subjects at a time, ensuring a deeper understanding of your subject and a more manageable workload. By concentrating on fewer subjects, students can dedicate their attention to mastering each one, leading to improved learning outcomes.
  • Experienced teachers: Our teachers bring years of expertise in their fields, offering insights and guidance tailored to your academic journey.
  • Student support: We are committed to providing excellent support to our students, and participating in the block delivery pilot ensures that this support is adequate.
  • Creating new opportunity:  This pilot has been developed by experts based on feedback from students. Now, it's your turn to experience a new learning environment.

Frequently asked questions

In block delivery, students complete two subjects at a time over a 6-week period, followed by a three-week break. After the break, they begin another two subjects over the next 6 weeks.

Traditionally, UOW College academic students undertake four subjects simultaneously over a 4-month period.

Block delivery aims to reduce the number of subjects students need to concentrate on at once, allowing for deeper focus and improved quality. This approach is designed to make the overall experience less stressful, leading to better learning outcomes.

The block delivery model will be trialled for a select group of students in the Autumn 2025 session and will apply to:

  • University Entrance Program (Stream 1 only)
  • Diploma of Business (Standard Session) – students undertaking the first session of the 3-session diploma only

These courses include the following four subjects that will be part of the block pilot:

  • PREP030 Launch
  • PREP031 Language for Learning
  • PREP032 Scientific Thinking
  • PREP033 Maths for Humanities

In the Autumn 2025 session, these subjects will be offered in both block and traditional modes. However, only students in the University Entrance Program (Stream 1) and those in the first session of the Diploma of Business will take the block version. Fast-track students will not participate in the pilot and will instead study the traditional version of these subjects.

All students with an offer for the University Entrance Program (Stream 1) or the Diploma of Business (Standard Session) will have their first session of subjects delivered in the trial block model.

If you're unsure whether your subjects will be delivered in the block model, have questions about the benefits of studying in this way, or would prefer to study through the traditional model for your first session, please contact UOW College.

The block pilot will only run in the Autumn 2025 session and will be available to students in the following programs:

  • University Entrance Program (Stream 1 only)
If you are in UEP Stream 2 or 3, you will not be part of the pilot program.
  • Diploma of Business (students undertaking the first session of the 3-session diploma)
If you are in the 2-session fast track diploma, or are in your second or third session of the 3-session diploma, you will not be in the block program.

UOW College will be trialling the block delivery model for new students in identified courses during the Autumn 2025 session only.

Block does not speed up nor slow down the duration of a course. Over a 4-month period, both the traditional model and block model allow students to complete up to 4 subjects.

Regardless of whether you were part of the block pilot program or not, or whether you passed or failed a subject in the block pilot program, all subjects will revert to the traditional model of delivery after the Autumn 2025 session is complete.

If you fail a subject in the block pilot, you will be able to re-take the subject in the following Spring session in the traditional delivery mode.

Following the pilot, all subjects will be taught in the traditional mode while the results and feedback from the block pilot are evaluated.

Irrespective of whether you are taking a subject for the first or second time, if you are in stream 1 of the University Entrance Program (UEP) or are in your first session of the 3-session Diploma of Business, you will complete that subject in the block pilot.

Students must be enrolled in all four (4) block subjects by close of business Monday of Week 1 (24th Feb 2025).

Since subjects in the block pilot are much shorter, students must also start attending their Block A classes in Week 1.

Block A (24 February – 4 April)

  • PREP030 Launch
  • PREP031 Language for Learning

Block B (28 April – 6 June)

  • PREP032 Scientific Thinking
  • PREP033 Maths for Humanities

Students who are late to enrol will be transferred to the equivalent subjects being run in traditional mode.

Friday of Week 2 in each block.

  • Block A census date is 7 March  2025
  • Block B census date is 9 May 2025
